Ask a Reference Librarian

Reference assistance from UW-Madison Libraries is available via email. Please use the email reference form and library staff will respond to you as soon as possible. And, as an extra benefit for University Research Park affiliates, if during your reference transaction you are referred to an article in a journal that the UW-Madison Library hold in print, you can request a photocopy of that article. (Limit three articles per reference transaction.) The article will be photocopied and mailed to you.

Wisconsin TechSearch is the fee-based information outreach program of the UW-Madison Kurt F. Wendt Engineering Library. WTS offers document and book delivery and reference services to business and industry, including on-line literature, patent and trademark searches. Access is provided to more than 40 libraries and information centers on the UW-Madison campus.

With over 35,000 directory links, MedBioWorld™, is the largest medical and bioscience reference and resource directory on the Internet. The site currently has links to more than 8,000 journals within 80 medical and bioscience specialties; the home pages of 7,000 medical and bioscience associations; and links to over 2,000 bioscience companies. Other research and reference tools include dictionaries and glossaries, search engines, disease databases, clinical trials, medical guidelines, education and training, and medical journal full-text articles and abstracts.

PubMed, a service of the National Library of Medicine, includes over 15 million citations for biomedical articles back to the 1950s. These citations are from MEDLINE and additional life science journals. PubMed includes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources.

Google Scholar provides access specifically to scholarly literature, including peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, preprints, abstracts and technical reports from all broad areas of research. Google Scholar also provides access to articles from a wide variety of academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories and universities, as well as scholarly articles available across the Web.
Free Medical Journals Online

Many important medical journals are available online, free, and in full-text and many more will be added over the next few years. Some of these are available as they are published and others are available anytime from one month to one year after publication.

Resources are also available on scholarships, fellowships, grants, and other funding opportunities. The Grants Information Collection at Memorial Library also includes other sources of information in both print and electronic format on private and corporate foundations and federal funding agencies.
