WI Women in Biohealth – Mentoring Information Session

November 9, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

WiB Mentoring Program Events

The mentorship program is designed to create connections among women within the biohealth field. Mentees benefit from the experience of their mentors to guide them in achieving their professional goals. Mentors are able to give back to the biohealth community by sharing their knowledge.

Mentors and mentees convene for regular one-on-one meetings starting January 16th 2023 to April 3rd 2023, either in person or online. Both parties agree to meet six times within a three-month period as their schedule allows, with a recommendation to meet biweekly. Support is provided by program administrators in the form of kick-off and wrap-up events, check-in emails, mentor-mentee tip sheet, open office hours for Q&A and guiding worksheets.

The information session will also feature a short workshop by Michelle Venturini, MBA, SPHR, Director of Human Resources at Esker Inc.

Workshop description: Feedback from previous WiB mentoring participants has highlighted a few key topics that would be helpful for future mentoring programs. During this workshop we’ll cover the topics that come up most often.

  • What’s the difference between mentor, coach, manager, and champion? On rare occasions they’re the same person. It’s more common for different people to fill these roles. We’ll talk about the purpose of each role and how they each contribute to growth and development.
  • Goal setting is important, but difficult to do well. Michelle will walk us through goal setting for personal and professional development and how to clarify goals so they are motivating and meaningful.
  • Depending upon mentee development goals, it might make sense for the mentor to be younger and less experienced. We’ll talk about this dynamic and when it applies.
  • Mentoring is a relationship with a defined beginning and ending. Knowing when it’s time to end can be awkward and confusing. Learn how to set expectations from the beginning so when the end arrives it’s a natural progression.

WiB Mentoring is appropriate for professionals at all experience levels who are looking to make connections within the biohealth community.
