Dairyvative among 5 Wisconsin companies to receive BrightStar funding

Dairyvative, a University Research Park resident company, is among 5 Wisconsin companies to receive investment funding from the BrightStar Wisconsin Foundation, a nonprofit that raises funds to invest in Wisconsin companies.

Dairyvative, which aims to enable a worldwide access to fresh milk, has a patented technology for concentrating milk.

BrightStar foundation makes investments in 5 Wisconsin companies

BrightStar Wisconsin Foundation Inc., a nonprofit that raises donations to make venture capital investments in state companies, said Wednesday that it has invested a total of $1 million in five state companies.

The foundation still has more than $2 million in cash on hand and will screen three additional companies at its next investment committee meeting on Jan. 20, said Todd Sobotka, portfolio manager.

BrightStar received approval from the Internal Revenue Service in November 2013 to operate as a tax-exempt organization. The foundation was formed by Tom Shannon, its president, who previously steered Waukesha biotech Prodesse Inc. to a successful acquisition. Read more …
