Meet VC 414: New, women-led early stage fund topic of May 11 Tech Council luncheon in Wauwatosa

May 11, 2023 @ 11:30 am - 1:30 pm

VC 414 logoFounded by venture capitalist and angel investor Jennifer Abele and former BMO Harris executive Raquel Filmanowicz, VC 414 launched early this year with a specific goal in mind: to help underrepresented founders grow their businesses and create generational wealth.

Learn more about the fund, which made its first investment this month, by attending the Thursday, May 11, Tech Council Innovation Network luncheon in Wauwatosa.

Milwaukee-based Even Labs Inc. announced April 14 it raised $2.2 million in seed funding with participation from VC 414. The round was led by CSA Partners, also based in Milwaukee.

The event will take place at UWM’s Innovation Accelerator, 1225 Discovery Parkway, Wauwatosa. Registration, networking and hors d’oeuvres start at 11:30 a.m. and the presentation at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $10 for students and returning veterans, $25 for individual members, $35 for non-members and included for Tech Council corporate members. Also joining the discussion will be State Rep. Dora Drake, D-Milwaukee, who will talk about state efforts to lever more early stage investment in Wisconsin.

“The launch of VC 414 is part of a national trend toward more diversity among angel and venture capital investors,” said Tom Still, president of the Wisconsin Technology Council. “A recent survey conducted by Deloitte, the National Venture Capital Association and Venture Forward showed a growing share of investment professionals in 2022 who were women or non-white. In turn, that can help to change how and where investments are made.”
