Madison ranks No. 4 for career flexibility in Midwest top 10

madison aerial viewIn a new study from CommercialCafe ranking the country’s 20 best cities for career flexibility, Madison placed fourth among the Midwest’s top 10. The study awarded the cities points for indicators in the following categories: flexibility opportunities, commuting and remote readiness, and career growth and economics. Madison was awarded a total of 43.3 points.

Key findings include:

  • Madison claims the lowest unemployment rate among the 10 best Midwestern entries, at 2.2%;
  • The city claims the second-highest density of public transportation vehicles among the regional ranking, at roughly 48 per 100,000 residents;
  • The city ranks third in the regional top 10 for employees working remotely, at 20.3%;
  • Employees who commute to work in Madison do so in about 19.3 minutes each way, representing the third-shortest travel time to work among the regional ranking;
  • Madison has the fourth-highest number of remote job listings per 100,000 residents among the top 10 Midwestern entries, at 198;
  • The city has the fifth-highest density of hybrid job listings among the top 10 Midwestern cities for career flexibility, at 337 per 100,000 residents; and
  • Madison has 56.8% high speed internet coverage, placing fifth among the top 10 Midwestern cities for this metric.
