State Economic Engagement & Development (SEED) Fund – 2025 Deadline, Feb 15, 2024

The State Economic Engagement & Development (SEED) Research Program grants are administered by Discovery to Product (D2P). SEED grants allow UW–Madison faculty and academic staff with ownership in a Wisconsin company to apply for funding to engage in innovative research, generate additional private and public sector support for their research programs, and promote technology transfer between the University and industry.

2024 Transcend Madison Innovation Competition – Application Deadline Feb 16

Transcend Madison will be hosting the Country's largest student run innovation competition where we are looking to give at least $55,000 worth of prizes. Application deadline Feb. 16. All team members must be degree-seeking University of Wisconsin-Madison students enrolled in the Spring 2024 term. Alumni who graduated from UW-Madison in December 2023 are still eligible to compete.

2024 Wisconsin Tech Summit – Application Deadline Feb. 26

Emerging companies may apply through Feb. 26 to meet with major firms and explore potential business relationships around technology needs and innovation as part of the 11th annual Wisconsin Tech Summit on March 18. The Tech Summit will feature a series of brief meetings, or “speed dates,” to foster communication and partnership. It is produced by the Wisconsin Technology Council.

Weinert Center for Entrepreneurship lunch: Alex Kubicek, Co-Founder and CEO of Understory - A lifelong passion of weather sparked by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina led Alex to receive an MS degree in Atmospheric Science at UW and fueled his ambition to start a company to leverage technology for practical, impactful solutions in climate-vulnerable industries. He has since changed the business model and pivoted to a pioneering insurance company to address the challenges in the P&C insurance sector.

Illuminating Discovery Hub – Crossroads of Ideas

Local electrode atom probe (LEAP) is a novel analysis technique combining both 3D imaging and precise atomic-scale chemical composition measurements. Exclusively developed by CAMECA, the atom probe is a prime example of Wisconsin innovation and discovery. Dr Katherine Rice, Applications Lab Manager at CAMECA Instruments, will share an introduction to this technology, some of the fun applications of LEAP, and the way UW–Madison and Wisconsin played a pivotal role.

NSF SBIR/STTR: Intensive Proposal Preparation March 13
